The wily winds of fall are here and if you’re downtown and need a respite from those whorling, whipping winds, check out the gallery down the street from Gallery D and Golden Rabbits. An exhibit of Bae Dong Shin, one of the first Korean artists to introduce surrealism into his painting, is a perfect autumn exhibit. Paintings are staged in series starting with still lives of apples. Crunchy delicious apples in several acts of emergence grace the first wall with a self-portrait of Bae looking on to them. Then a series of boats in Mokpo. The delight of these bouncing craft then move into a series of Mudeun Mountain as an enormous  geometric mass of darkness. There are still so many more to see as well. Nudes, color studies. Especially check out what I call Sunflower Buddha and Shaman Sister.

Running from 10.16 – 11.05 at Gallery Zoo, downtown Gwangju.
